Canadian shipbuilder Seaspan has delivered the CCGS Naalak Nappaaluk, the new flagship of Canada’s scientific fleet. Named after an Inuit elder, it replaces the 59-year-old CCGS Hudson. Despite facing delays and budget overruns, the vessel will support oceanographic research and assist in search and rescue operations in Arctic conditions.
Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has begun constructing a state-of-the-art Acoustic Research Ship for the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory under DRDO. The keel-laying ceremony featured Dr. Sameer V. Kamat, DRDO Chairman. This advanced vessel will aid in acoustic and oceanographic research, enhancing GRSE’s collaboration with the Indian Navy.
KAUST has selected Freire Shipyards in Vigo, Spain, to build its new research vessel, RV Thuwal II, scheduled for completion in 2026. This vessel will be Saudi Arabia’s first regional class research vessel, providing access to the Red Sea for marine research. Designed by Glosten in the US, overseen by Maritime Survey International from Australia, RV Thuwal II will support various research interests and government ministries, strengthening the nation’s research capabilities.
