A high-level delegation from Hanwha Ocean Co. Ltd. of South Korea, led by Senior Vice President Jin Su Lee, recently visited India to explore collaboration opportunities in the shipbuilding industry. Both nations are interested in working together to strengthen their positions, with India aiming to be among the world’s top 10 shipbuilders by 2030.
This week, maritime sector unveiled initiatives aimed at improving seafarer welfare, improvements in Seafarers happiness and significant innovations, including the Matangi, an autonomous vessel under the Sagarmala Project, and advanced AI technologies at Vizhinjam International Port. Addionally, pioneering eco-friendly technologies highlight the industry’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
Asia’s largest shipbuilders are seeing a surge in orders from Western shipowners, with newbuild prices reaching levels comparable to those seen in 2008. Korean and Chinese yards are attracting orders for high-value LNG carriers and container ships. The top 50 shipowners by tonnage account for over half of the capacity on order.
