Central to the facility is the BMT REMBRANDT navigation simulator, used globally for training and feasibility studies. The center supports both defense and commercial initiatives, focusing on autonomous vessels and digital maritime systems.
In February, the Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy inaugurated the world’s first operational LNG/ammonia bunkering station skid in Karjat, Mumbai. This initiative aims to equip seafarers with essential skills for handling alternative fuels. The academy offers specialized training courses on methanol and bunkering practices, supporting the maritime industry’s shift toward sustainable operations.
India’s inaugural Maritime Simulation Centre was launched at AMET Knowledge Park near Chennai by Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. This ₹13.5 crore facility, a collaboration between AMET and A.P. Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) is pioneering a low-carbon maritime future with its first methanol bunkering simulator at the Kochi Maritime Training Center. Developed with Wärtsilä, this initiative focuses on equipping seafarers for safe methanol handling. By 2026, BSM will also introduce an ammonia-bunker simulation, furthering training in carbon-neutral operations.
In a landmark agreement, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK-Line) partnered with Damen Services to introduce an advanced full mission bridge simulator tailored for offshore wind operations. The simulator, built in cooperation with VSTEP Simulation, achieved a critical milestone with the successful completion of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) in October.
