Slime Fouling

Slime build-up on cargo ships affects fuel efficiency, emissions, and consumer prices. KTH Royal Institute of Technology developed a model to estimate biofilm growth on ship hulls, allowing for optimal cleaning intervals. Research shows biofilm increases fuel consumption by up to 80%. Timely cleaning is crucial for maximizing fuel savings and reducing environmental impact.
