More than three months after the Houthi attack on the laden tanker Sounion, the damaged vessel has been successfully unloaded, averting a potential catastrophic oil spill. Greek officials confirmed the completion of the oil removal process at the anchorage south of the Suez Canal, raising concerns about the extent of the Houthi’s actions.
The vessel Sounion is undergoing an offloading operation near the Suez Canal in Egypt, aided by the tug Aigaion Pelagos and the tanker Delta Blue. Despite previous attacks on Delta Blue, the operation is progressing smoothly, with 150,000 tonnes of oil still to be transferred.
Nearly seven weeks after Houthi terrorists attacked the tanker Sounion in the Red Sea, satellite data shows that the fires on the vessel have finally been put out. The ship was left adrift after the attack on August 21, with subsequent fires burning for weeks until Greek salvors began firefighting efforts on September 23.
