The Nuclear Energy Maritime Organization (NEMO) has achieved NGO advisory status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and will participate in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference meetings. This milestone enhances NEMO’s role in ensuring safe nuclear energy use in maritime environments, contributing to global decarbonization and energy security efforts.
The newly established Hong Kong Maritime and Port Development Board (HKMPDB) aims to reinforce the city’s status as a global maritime hub. Featuring industry leaders, the board expands upon its predecessor by enhancing research capabilities and advising local authorities on policy, addressing Hong Kong’s declining prominence in the shipping sector.
A recent report has highlighted concerns about a potential “feasibility wall” hindering the progress of green corridors in the shipping industry. The lack of policies addressing the cost of transitioning to zero-emission fuels is seen as the main obstacle. The initiative gained momentum with 22 nations pledging support for net-zero corridors.
