German engineering firm Sonplas has unveiled explosion-proof thermal chambers designed for testing fuel and energy system components in hazardous environments. With a temperature range of -60°C to 180°C, these chambers ensure safety and precision while validating equipment like injectors and pumps, addressing the growing demand for alternative fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia.
Jersey is pivotal in an international initiative assessing the S-100 data framework for maritime navigation. Spearheaded by the UK Hydrographic Office and SHOM, this project leverages high-quality bathymetric data from Ports of Jersey. The Port of Rotterdam recently tested its capabilities for future ammonia bunkering operations, in anticipation of the arrival of ammonia-fueled vessels in 2026 or 2027. Safety protocols were enhanced, with successful ship-to-ship transfer of 800 cubic meters of liquid ammonia using gray ammonia. The industry is making strides towards using ammonia as a viable alternative fuel source.
