Alfa Laval has seen a growing demand for its low-flashpoint fuel supply system, FCM Methanol, with over 100 orders received. This surge in interest indicates a rising uptake of methanol fuel in the maritime sector. The Methanol Institute reports that over 250 new methanol-capable vessels have been ordered globally, making methanol the most contracted alternative fuel type in 2023. Alfa Laval, with its 50 years of experience in fuel treatment, has established the FCM Methanol as a reliable solution for methanol handling, boasting over 450,000 running hours at sea.
The company is now on its third generation of FCM Methanol and has started fulfilling orders with the latest technology. Vessels equipped with the system are approaching their second dry dock inspections, showcasing exceptional safety, reliability, and user-friendliness. Alfa Laval’s FCM Methanol system has also been chosen for the industry’s first methanol retrofit project on a Maersk container vessel, and the company is collaborating with engine manufacturer MAN ES to develop a fuel supply system for four-stroke engines.
Alfa Laval’s success with the FCM Methanol system highlights the growing interest in methanol as a fuel source in the maritime industry, with the company’s long-standing expertise in fuel treatment ensuring a reliable and efficient solution for methanol handling.
