Ambrey, a British maritime security company, reported an attack on a ship approximately 61 nautical miles southwest of Hodeidah, Yemen. At the same location, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) also received a report of an incident where the captain of a ship witnessed two missiles near the vessel, causing no damage. It was uncertain if both reports were referring to the same incident since neither identified the specific ships involved.

The Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Yemen have been targeting ships in the Red Sea region for several months in support of Palestinians during the Gaza conflict. One of the missiles mentioned in the UKMTO report was intercepted by coalition forces defending merchant shipping, while the other hit the water away from the ship. Fortunately, there was no damage to the vessel, and the crew was reported to be safe. These attacks have disrupted global shipping, leading to longer and more expensive voyages in southern Africa.

As a response to the Houthi attacks on shipping, the United States and Britain conducted strikes on Houthi targets. The ongoing conflict in the region has raised concerns about potential escalation and destabilization in the Middle East. The incidents highlight the risks faced by ships navigating the Red Sea, emphasizing the importance of maritime security measures to safeguard crew and vessels against such threats.
