Crewmembers aboard a Washington State Ferries vessel, the Jumbo-class ferry Walla Walla, recently sprang into action to rescue three boaters and a dog after their small vessel capsized near Bremerton, Wash. The incident occurred near the Bremerton terminal, where the ferry crew managed to save one person and their dog. The individual was treated for hypothermia and chest pains before being handed over to emergency medical technicians on shore. Meanwhile, the U.S. Coast Guard and local fire department were able to rescue the two remaining victims.
The Walla Walla ferry resumed its journey from Bremerton to Seattle following the successful rescue operation. This vessel, built by the former Todd Shipyard (now Vigor) in 1972, is a 440-foot-long double-ended car and passenger ferry with a capacity for up to 2,000 passengers and 188 vehicles. The quick and efficient response from the ferry crew highlights the importance of preparedness and teamwork in emergency situations at sea.
