Carnival Cruise Line Names First Woman as Fleet Staff Captain

Carnival Cruise Line recently marked a significant milestone in its history with the appointment of Daniela Gargiulo as the global fleet’s first female Staff Captain. A ceremony took place aboard the Carnival Adventure, where Captain Francesco Bencivenga officially welcomed Gargiulo as his second-in-command during the ship’s return to Sydney from the South Pacific.

Gargiulo, who joined Carnival Adventure last year, has been with Carnival Cruise Line since 2013, starting her journey as a Deck Cadet. Over the past 13 years, she has demonstrated exceptional service, professionalism, and leadership, which has propelled her through the ranks. Her passion for the maritime industry began at a young age when she enrolled in a nautical school in Italy at 14, igniting her lifelong love for the ocean.

In her own words, Gargiulo expressed pride in her promotion, stating, “This promotion is an incredible honour, and I’m extremely proud to be the first woman in Carnival Cruise Line history to be a Staff Captain.” She emphasized the importance of Carnival’s career pathways, which provide both men and women with opportunities for a fulfilling life at sea. Captain Bencivenga also expressed his pride in Gargiulo’s appointment, highlighting its significance for gender diversity in the maritime sector.
