The Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with four prestigious academic institutions: the University of Michigan, Maritime Research Alliance, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and World Maritime University. This partnership aims to enhance transparency and knowledge exchange between the maritime industry and academia, while also developing the necessary skills for future leaders and transition enablers in the industry.

By joining forces with these academic institutions, the Center hopes to expedite the decarbonization efforts within the maritime sector. Bo Cerup-Simonsen, CEO of the Center, expressed optimism about the collaboration, highlighting the potential to drive innovation and progress in this area. Thomas Roslyng Olesen, Head of Maritime Research Alliance, also emphasized the Center’s leadership in developing sustainable shipping solutions, underscoring the value of this partnership.

Professor Bjørn Egil Asbjørnslett from NTNU Ocean and Coast highlighted the university’s longstanding focus on ship technology and collaboration with Norway’s maritime sector. The partnership with the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping aligns with NTNU’s efforts to advance research and education on energy efficiency and emission reduction in maritime transport, as well as the broader energy transition. This collaboration is expected to leverage the academic expertise of these institutions and industry knowledge to drive the development of innovative solutions for decarbonizing shipping.
