A delegation from Thailand, including officials from the Thai Directorate and the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, visited Sri Lanka to explore potential business and investment opportunities at the Hambantota International Port. The visit was seen as a continuation of a tour of the Port Authority of Thailand earlier in the year and was driven by the upcoming free trade agreement between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Tissa Wickremasinghe, COO of Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG), expressed optimism about the potential collaboration with Thai companies and investors. The delegation showed interest in various aspects of the port’s operations, signaling a desire to explore mutually beneficial partnerships. The visit was aimed at further enhancing interactions between Sri Lanka and Thailand and establishing strong business ties.
The delegation included Deputy Director of the Thai Directorate, Minister Counselor at the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, and several analysts, accompanied by a counselor from the Royal Thai Embassy in Sri Lanka. The visit was part of efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries and leverage the upcoming free trade agreement to boost business opportunities at the Hambantota International Port.
