Hexagon Purus Maritime is sponsoring a group of ambitious students from TU Delft University who are working on designing a hydrogen-powered boat to sail across the North Sea from the Netherlands to London. The students have been researching and developing solar-powered and hydrogen-based boats for 18 years, and their self-built boat aims to showcase the potential of sustainable maritime transport. The team will rely on three Type-4 hydrogen cylinders from Hexagon Purus Maritime to store and transport the fuel for the journey.
The students recently presented their boat design to Hexagon Purus Maritime, and they are set to embark on their journey in July. With a speed of 22 knots, the students hope to reach London in approximately 16 hours, depending on weather and waves. The cylinders from Hexagon Purus Maritime offer a solution to decarbonizing the maritime sector and provide a low-emissions alternative to fossil fuels.
TU Delft University has been a dream destination for young engineers, and the Hydro Motion Team has built 15 boats so far, with a focus now shifting towards hydrogen-powered boats. Hexagon Purus Maritime is honored to sponsor the students and provide them with the necessary cylinders and expertise for their project. The team’s work is seen as an inspiration for the maritime industry to transition to zero-emission fuels.
