The Inland Waterways Development Council recently convened for the first time on the Ganges Queen cruise ship in Kolkata, where Minister for Energy and Parliamentary Affairs KG Kenye highlighted the long overdue National Waterways 101 Tizu-Zungki Project in Nagaland. Kenye emphasized the importance of inland waterways for Nagaland, a landlocked country that shares a border with Myanmar, and urged the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways to prioritize its development. He also called for feasibility studies to be conducted on the National Waterways 31 Dhansari for freight and transport, as well as the Doyang Reservoir Dam to promote water tourism.
Kenye’s address at the meeting focused on the significant role that inland waterways could play in the development of Nagaland. He stressed the urgency of implementing the National Waterways 101 Tizu-Zungki Project, which has been pending for several years. Kenye also highlighted the potential of the National Waterways 31 Dhansari for freight and transport, and proposed the development of water tourism at the Doyang Reservoir Dam. His remarks underscored the need for the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways to pay attention to Nagaland’s inland waterways, given its landlocked status and border proximity to Myanmar.
