The Monna Lisa is a new cable laying vessel being built by the Prysmian Group, with PALFINGER MARINE commissioned to deliver a major equipment package to support their decarbonization goals. The vessel, named after the famous painting, will be 171 meters long and have the capacity to accommodate up to 120 people. With PALFINGER equipment, the Monna Lisa will incorporate technical and sustainable solutions aimed at reducing carbon emissions and the environmental footprint of the industry. The vessel is set to start commercial operation in Q1 2025 and will join Prysmian’s installation fleet, increasing their number of cable laying vessels to six.

The equipment package from PALFINGER includes a large A-frame for plough operations, an active heave-compensated lifting/towing winch, and other essential equipment for cable laying operations. The Monna Lisa will feature cable installation equipment including carousels of 7,000 and 10,000 tons as well as state-of-the-art DP3 positioning and seakeeping systems. With a beam of about 34 meters, it comes with a bollard pull of 200 tons and a maximum transit speed exceeding 16 knots.

The vessel is being built at VARD Tulcea in Romania, with final outfitting, commissioning, and delivery to be carried out by VARD Søviknes in Norway. The project also involves high technology subsidiaries of the VARD Group, and the Monna Lisa is expected to become a flagship for carbon neutrality in the industry.
