Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot praised the Indian Coast Guard for its role in protecting the nation’s maritime interests during the 48th Indian Coast Guard Day programme in Mangaluru, Karnataka. He commended the Coast Guard for its dedication, loyalty, and courage in safeguarding the nation’s extensive maritime borders. The Governor highlighted the challenges faced by the Coast Guard in maritime trade and security, noting the increase in maritime traffic due to the growing Indian economy.
Governor Gehlot emphasized the Coast Guard’s expertise in addressing various challenges such as search and rescue operations, marine pollution, maritime terrorism, and illegal smuggling. He also lauded the Coast Guard’s international engagements in joint exercises with countries in East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. The Governor praised the Coast Guard for its life-saving operations during natural calamities and its initiatives to raise awareness among fishermen about safety measures. He also mentioned the Coast Guard’s efforts in bolstering electronic surveillance networks along the Indian coast.
The event was attended by dignitaries including Praveen Kumar Mishra, Karnataka Coast Guard Commander. The Governor concluded by highlighting the appreciation extended by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the exemplary performance of the Indian Coast Guard in safeguarding the nation’s seas, fishermen, and marine environment.
