Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has been awarded a contract by the Norwegian Intelligence Service to provide satellite maritime surveillance data for Norwegian Areas of Interest. The contract, covering four years starting in 2025, will support the Norwegian Armed Forces, as well as other government institutions involved in maritime security. The three satellites, equipped with AIS receivers and detector systems, will be produced by Kongsberg NanoAvionics and operated by Kongsberg Satellite Services.
The satellites, owned by Kongsberg, will provide high frequency and low latency surveillance data for both the Norwegian government and international customers. This service will enhance Kongsberg’s offerings in maritime domain awareness and strengthen maritime security in the High North. The satellite constellation, named N3X, is the first in a series planned by Kongsberg to provide optimized data sets for users, with excess capability available for international users.
Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, expressed pride in providing this service and highlighted the company’s full value chain in satellite services. Vice Admiral Nils Andreas Stensønes, Director of the Norwegian Intelligence Service, emphasized the importance of the satellites in enhancing maritime surveillance capability and situational awareness. Overall, the contract with the Norwegian government marks a significant step in Kongsberg’s efforts to provide advanced satellite services for maritime security.
