The first LNG bunkering for cruise passenger ships in Asia Pacific was successfully completed at the Singapore Cruise Centre (SCC), marking a significant milestone for the industry. TotalEnergies Marine Fuels, in partnership with V.Ships and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, delivered LNG to Silversea’s Silver Nova via the bunker vessel Brassavola. This operation required meticulous planning and coordination among stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety standards, allowing for smooth passenger movements and ship operations during the bunkering process.

Jacqueline Tan, CEO of SCC, expressed excitement over the growing market for dual-fuel LNG-powered vessels in the cruise industry. The successful LNG bunkering at SCC’s HarbourFront Terminal demonstrates readiness for future operations and aligns with the International Maritime Organisation’s goals to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. TotalEnergies Marine Fuels Senior Vice President, Louise Tricoire, emphasized the importance of industry collaboration and partnerships in driving the maritime sector towards lower-emission solutions.

Mario Moretti, Managing Director of V.Ships Asia, highlighted the detailed planning and professionalism that enabled the successful LNG bunkering operation for Silver Nova. The debut of LNG bunkering at SCC’s terminal expands Singapore’s sustainability efforts in the tourism sector and positions the port to support LNG-powered passenger ships in the region. Chua Yeng Hian, Director of Marine Services at MPA, emphasized Singapore’s commitment to upholding bunkering safety standards while facilitating the industry’s transition to a multi-fuel future.
