The Andaman & Nicobar Administration is set to develop its coastal Union Territory Pavilion at the upcoming National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) in Lothal, Gujarat. This complex aims to be an international tourist destination showcasing India’s rich maritime heritage. It will feature diverse artefacts and exhibits spanning ancient to modern times, providing public access to learn and appreciate the country’s maritime history. The pavilions, including the one from Andaman & Nicobar, will be designed to reflect the architecture, culture, lifestyle, and maritime heritage of their respective regions.
The NMHC will showcase various elements such as coastal archaeological sites, historic port towns, artefacts like sculptures and manuscripts depicting maritime traditions, monuments, temples, forts, and cave sites, as well as traditional boat-building techniques and the legacy of shipbuilding. It will also highlight historical trade interactions, traditional art and craft practices, and replicas of forts, ancient ships, and coastline activities. To enrich the Pavilion, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration is seeking contributions from the public, voluntary organizations, and individuals related to the region’s maritime heritage. Contributions can be sent to the Secretary (Art & Culture) via email at artand.culture@and.nic.in.
All contributions will be acknowledged, and cooperation is solicited to help showcase the region’s maritime heritage at the National Maritime Heritage Complex in Lothal, Gujarat. This initiative aims to inspire the public by highlighting India’s maritime legacy and promoting a deeper understanding and appreciation of the country’s maritime history.
