The National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal is being hailed as a transformative project by Minister Sonowal. He emphasized that the complex not only honors India’s rich maritime history but also serves as a beacon for future generations, guiding them with knowledge, innovation, and national pride. Looking ahead to National Maritime Day 2025, the Minister outlined the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening India’s maritime infrastructure, promoting sustainability, and enhancing global partnerships.
Sonowal framed the NMHC as a blend of legacy and progress, symbolizing India’s dedication to both heritage and advancement. He described it as a representation of the vision of ‘Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi’, shaping a strong maritime future while preserving cultural heritage. The Minister highlighted the global relevance of the NMHC, stating that it will attract scholars, historians, and visitors from around the world, offering insights into India’s maritime traditions and advancements.
The NMHC aims to redefine maritime storytelling through cutting-edge museums, interactive displays, conservation initiatives, and international research collaborations. By the end of 2025, Phase 1-A of the complex will be operational with six museum galleries, followed by Phase 1-B with eight additional galleries. This expansion will establish the NMHC as a world-class center for maritime history and innovation, showcasing India’s commitment to safeguarding its cultural roots while moving towards a progressive maritime future.
