The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has launched a six-month Structured Onboard Training Programme aboard the MV Swaraj Dweep. Initiated on July 15, 2026, this initiative aims to enhance the employability of Indian seafarers by providing essential onboard training for General Purpose Rating and Maritime Catering trainees.
On June 4, 2025, the Andaman Nicobar Command successfully averted a maritime disaster near Battimalv Island. The Merchant Vessel Fotex, drifting due to engine failure, posed a threat to the ecologically sensitive region. The Indian Coast Guard acted swiftly, towing the vessel away and preventing an environmental crisis.
The Andaman & Nicobar Administration is collaborating with the National Maritime Heritage Complex in Gujarat to develop a coastal Union Territory Pavilion. This initiative aims to showcase India’s rich maritime history through artefacts, exhibits, and traditional practices. Contributions are welcome to enrich the Pavilion and promote a deeper understanding of the country’s maritime heritage.
