Goa has appointed the Captain of Ports to serve as the Goa Maritime Board under the Indian Ports Act, 2025. This decision is part of an initiative to modernize the state’s port administration and enhance the statutory independence of the department.
With this change, the Captain of Ports will also assume the role of conservator for all minor ports in Goa, effective immediately upon notification. This new structure is anticipated to bolster the oversight of safety, navigation, and infrastructure across the state’s inland waterways and minor ports.
The transformation aims to streamline operations and improve regulatory frameworks within the maritime domain, ensuring better standards and efficiency. This shift is expected to significantly impact the management of Goa’s maritime resources and contribute to the state’s economic growth.
Overall, the establishment of a more autonomous maritime governance structure is a crucial step toward enhancing the effective management of port activities in the region.
