Mumbai: The Directorate General of Shipping has recommended TS Rahaman for successfully launching the fourth batch of a pioneering initiative aimed at empowering women in maritime careers. This program, established two years ago in collaboration with major shipping companies, helps young women from rural India pursue careers as seafarers.

Thanks to ongoing partnerships with various stakeholders, the initiative has successfully onboarded over 80 women into the maritime workforce. Scholarships totaling ₹72 lakhs have been awarded to deserving candidates, enabling them to access important training and resources.

We appreciate the unwavering support from TS Rahaman, the participating shipping companies, unions, students, and the families of these young women, all of whom have played a crucial role in advancing gender equality in the maritime sector. Their collective efforts underscore the importance of inclusivity in a traditionally male-dominated field and pave the way for greater opportunities for women in shipping.
