The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has classified the Lila Jamnagar, a 298,997 DWT Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), making it one of the largest vessels registered under the Indian flag. This addition is a significant step for India’s tanker fleet and reinforces the IRS’s role in bolstering the country’s maritime ambitions.
Owned by RFK Shipping IFSC Private Limited and operated via the Lila Global platform, Lila Jamnagar is registered in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City). The classification underscores IRS’s capability to provide technical services for complex vessels in global energy transportation.
IRS will oversee the vessel’s operational lifecycle, ensuring compliance with international safety and performance standards. Mr. P K Mishra, Managing Director of IRS, noted that advancing India’s merchant fleet necessitates robust oversight and adherence to global standards, and the addition of Lila Jamnagar supports large tanker operations while promoting India’s maritime ecosystem.
Furthermore, Lila Jamnagar stands out as the first Indian-flagged VLCC structured through GIFT City, showcasing the financial hub’s growing influence in maritime asset ownership and investment in India.
