Hapag-Lloyd and the Indian Government have signed three letters of intent aimed at enhancing maritime cooperation and bolstering India’s shipping and logistics sector. This partnership will focus on advancements that benefit both parties in maritime operations.
As part of this collaboration, Hapag-Lloyd is considering reflagging up to four vessels under the Indian registry. However, these changes will depend on the results of commercial evaluations and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Additionally, a significant initiative is underway to establish a ship recycling ecosystem in India. This project aims to create facilities capable of processing up to 100 vessels, ensuring that decommissioned ships are managed in accordance with international safety standards. Officials emphasize that this initiative is vital for promoting sustainable practices in the maritime industry.
