International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez recently praised India’s substantial contributions to sustainable shipping and seafarer welfare. During his visit to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways in New Delhi, he emphasized the importance of enhancing maritime cooperation and discussed strategies for advancing the maritime sector and bilateral relations.
Dominguez’s visit highlighted the collaboration between India and the IMO, aimed at creating a cleaner and more efficient global shipping industry. Engaging with senior officials, discussions focused on improving efficiency, promoting green shipping practices, and incorporating advanced technology in port development. He commended India’s initiatives toward sustainability and innovation in the maritime industry while reaffirming IMO’s commitment to seafarer welfare.
Furthermore, Dominguez recognized India’s pivotal role in the global maritime landscape, noting its supply of a significant number of the world’s seafarers and leadership in sustainable ship recycling. His agenda included attending the ‘2025 Green Shipping Conclave’ in Mumbai, where he engaged with local seafarers and stakeholders to promote skills development and unlock opportunities for green growth in the maritime sector.
