India’s National e-Governance Division (NeGD) has partnered with the Indian Ports Association (IPA) to promote digital transformation in the maritime sector. This initiative aims to close existing digital gaps within ports and shipping, streamline logistics, and modernize obsolete processes. By combining NeGD’s tech expertise with IPA’s sector knowledge, the partnership focuses on software development, system integration, and adopting emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
The collaboration envisions an interconnected network of ports utilizing real-time data to improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and boost supply chain efficiency. This aligns with India’s broader goal of becoming a global leader in maritime digital transformation, as highlighted in the Maritime India Vision 2030, which underscores the sector’s role in handling 95% of trade volume.
Additionally, with a coastline of 7,500 km and numerous ports, India aims to modernize its maritime infrastructure through technology and renewable energy. Government plans include expanding port capacities, developing new maritime clusters, and enhancing multi-modal connectivity. In tandem, India is advancing its broader digital landscape through significant investments in artificial intelligence and technology, reinforcing its status as a global tech superpower.
