The Indian Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) has issued a strong warning to Indian seafarers and shipping stakeholders to refrain from traveling to Iran due to escalating security concerns. This advisory follows a previous recommendation from the Ministry of External Affairs, dated January 14, 2026, which also urged Indian nationals to avoid travel to the region.

An updated advisory from the Indian Embassy in Tehran, released on February 23, 2026, further emphasizes the urgency for Indian nationals currently in Iran to exit the country as soon as possible. It encourages them to utilize available transportation options and to maintain regular communication with the Embassy for assistance.

In light of these developments, all RPSL companies, shipping firms, trade unions, and maritime associations have been instructed not to send Indian seafarers to Iran until further notice. They are also advised to keep a close watch on the safety and security of crews operating in Iranian waters or navigating through the Strait of Hormuz.

Seafarers who find themselves in Iran are urged to stay alert, limit unnecessary shore activities, adhere strictly to official guidelines, and coordinate with their companies or agents to facilitate safe repatriation.
