Kochi Water Metro Ltd (KWML) is nearing the completion of two new terminals at Kadamakudy and Pizhala. The terminal works are in the final stages, with Kadamakudy services set to be launched after those to the Mattancherry and Willingdon Island areas, which will be inaugurated within a month. Currently, residents of Kadamakudy and Pizhala rely on ferry and jangar services for commuting between the regions.
Limited road access in Kadamakudy is primarily available to inhabitants of major islands like Valiya Kadamakudy, Chennur, Kothad, and Korampadam, enabling them to reach city centers. The Moolampilly-Chathanad road project has led to the construction of the Moolampilly-Pizhala bridge and Pizhala connectivity bridges. However, the existing road on Pizhala island is insufficient for vehicular traffic. The Water Metro connectivity from the South Chittoor region to Kadamakudy is expected to draw a significant number of tourists to the island area.
The upcoming inauguration of the new terminals signifies a significant step forward for KWML. Once operational, the improved transportation infrastructure will enhance connectivity and accessibility for residents and visitors alike. The development will also benefit the tourism sector by attracting more tourists to the scenic island area.
The impending launch of the new terminals by Kochi Water Metro Ltd highlights the company’s commitment to improving transportation options in the region. As these terminals become operational, residents of Kadamakudy and Pizhala can look forward to more efficient and convenient commuting options. Additionally, the enhanced connectivity is expected to boost tourism in the island area, further contributing to its economic development.
