During the upcoming India Maritime Week (IMW) in Mumbai, the Odisha government plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for developing a cruise terminal in Puri. This initiative, as stated by P L Haranadh, chairman of the Paradip Port Authority (PPA), will initially focus on Puri, with future phases extending the terminal to Paradip over the next two to three years.
Paradip port will play a significant role at the IMW, where it aims to finalize agreements totaling ₹1.5 lakh crore across various sectors, including shipbuilding, port modernization, and green hydrogen projects. Notably, Paradip port has recently been designated as a green hydrogen hub, joining Tuticorin and Kandla as one of only three ports in India to achieve this status.
The Odisha government will also have a dedicated session at IMW to discuss the state’s maritime development. Previous MoUs with PPA include strategic projects like the Bahuda port development and a shipbuilding center in Kendrapada, which are expected to boost employment and economic growth in the region.
Organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, the event will gather over 100 maritime nations, 200 international experts, and 500 leading maritime industries, serving as a vital platform for knowledge sharing and investment opportunities. To raise public awareness, Paradip port has launched various initiatives, including sand art at the beach and social media campaigns.
