During an inter-ministerial press conference on April 6, Mukesh Mangal, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, assured that all seafarers in the conflict-affected area are safe. The ongoing US-Israel military operations have contributed to a global energy crisis, particularly impacting the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for oil trade from West Asia. As a result, crude oil prices have surged above $115 per barrel.
Mangal confirmed that there have been no reported incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels in the last 24 hours. He highlighted that two Indian-flagged vessels, Green Sanghvi and Green Asha, which were transporting LPG, have successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz in the past two days.
Currently, 16 Indian-flagged vessels are operating in the Western Persian Gulf, carrying a total of 433 Indian seafarers. The Ministry is actively collaborating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions, and maritime stakeholders to ensure the safety and welfare of seafarers while maintaining uninterrupted maritime operations.
Additionally, ship-tracking data from LSEG and Kpler indicates that two Indian-flagged LPG carriers have exited the Persian Gulf, while a third vessel remains positioned west of the Strait of Hormuz, as reported by Mehr news agency.
