The newly inaugurated Security Surveillance Tower at New Mangalore Port (NMP) was unveiled by TK Ramachandran, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW). This tower will enhance the port’s ISPS-compliant perimeter security, ensuring continuous monitoring of operations and bolstering emergency response capabilities.

Upon his arrival, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) provided a ceremonial guard of honor. He was welcomed by NMPA Chairman AV Ramana, Deputy Chairperson S Shanthi, and other port officials. Ramachandran also laid the foundation for an expansion of the truck parking terminal adjacent to the Customs House, aimed at improving logistical efficiency and cargo handling turnaround.

In his address, the shipping secretary commended the port’s recent advancements, urging staff to continue supporting the growth of the maritime sector. He highlighted NMPA’s initiatives to integrate automation and digital technologies, including e-kart ticketing and drone surveillance.

Additionally, Ramachandran visited the developing multispecialty hospital under a public-private partnership and inspected the international cruise lounge, emphasizing the port’s commitment to enhancing cruise tourism. He also toured the Chowgule SBD Mangalore Shipyard, appreciating its role in strengthening India’s maritime manufacturing capacity.
