On Tuesday, Vijay Kumar, IAS, visited the New Mangalore Port Authority to evaluate its operations and future projects. Welcomed by the Chairman and Deputy Chairperson, he inspected cargo facilities, focusing on efficiency and sustainability. Kumar inaugurated several modernization projects, including a truck parking facility, reflecting a commitment to operational excellence and employee welfare.
The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) is essential to India’s energy security, recently welcoming the oil tanker Aqua Titan with 96,099 tonnes of crude oil and the Pysix Pioneer carrying 16,714 tonnes of LPG. These shipments reflect the government’s proactive measures to stabilize fuel supply amid global uncertainties.
India’s maritime sector has transformed significantly over 11 years, with an expected Rs 80 lakh crore investment over the next 22 years. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced this during the Golden Jubilee of the New Mangalore Port, emphasizing the importance of maritime capabilities for a USD 30 trillion economy by 2047.
The newly inaugurated Security Surveillance Tower at New Mangalore Port was unveiled by TK Ramachandran, enhancing ISPS-compliant perimeter security. Accompanied by port officials, he laid the foundation for a truck parking terminal to improve logistical efficiency. Ramachandran praised staff efforts in advancing automation, digital technologies, and cruise tourism initiatives.
