The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has introduced its second-generation Marine Rescue Vessel, the Blue Dolphin, enhancing maritime emergency response from the West Coast Marine Fire Station. Officially unveiled on June 25, the vessel is designed for major maritime incidents and features advanced command systems, chemical detection sensors, improved rescue tools, and environmentally friendly technologies, including solar panels and biofuel engines.

At the commissioning ceremony, Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs Edwin Tong emphasized the vessel’s meticulous planning and construction, highlighting the expertise behind its development, which involved collaboration with Penguin Shipyard International and various government agencies. The Blue Dolphin includes an Integrated Command Centre and an Advanced Navigational System to minimize crew fatigue, along with a quick-launch capability for its firefighting-equipped RHIB.

In alignment with the Singapore Green Plan 2030, the vessel will support sustainability initiatives. By 2030, SCDF aims to operate ten vessels, bolstered by a new Marine Division Headquarters set to open in 2026 and a Marine Fire Post in Punggol by 2028. As Singapore’s maritime sector expands, including the anticipated arrival of larger cruise ships and the Tuas Mega Port, SCDF is committed to enhancing its capabilities to safeguard the waters effectively.
