Australia and Singapore have chosen eight projects to receive funding as part of a $20 million initiative aimed at reducing emissions in the maritime sector. The Australia-Singapore Initiative on Low Emissions Technologies (ASLET) aligns with the objectives of the Singapore and Australia Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC), which seeks to accelerate the decarbonisation and digitisation of shipping routes between the two countries. ASLET is a collaborative effort between Australia’s national science agency, CSIRO, and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on behalf of both governments.
Launched in July 2024, the ASLET grant opportunity received 32 applications from universities, research institutes, and industry players in Australia and Singapore. The selected projects, which cover a range of activities such as hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol utilization, safety and environmental monitoring, and electrification, are expected to help accelerate the deployment of zero or near-zero greenhouse gas emission technologies for maritime and port operations. These projects have also attracted co-contributions and are slated for completion within the next two years.
For more information on the selected projects, interested parties can visit the CSIRO and MPA websites. The MPA, established in 1996, plays a pivotal role in developing Singapore as a premier global hub port and international maritime center. It serves as the maritime and port regulator and planner, champion of digitalization and decarbonization efforts, and representative at various international maritime forums. MPA collaborates with industry, research communities, and other agencies to enhance safety, security, environmental protection, and support the growth of the maritime sector in Singapore.
