Collaboration to Boost Maritime Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

Damen Shiprepair, a segment of Damen Shipyards Group, and Alfa Laval Benelux, part of Alfa Laval, have entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance energy efficiency in the maritime sector. This collaboration aims to identify sustainability improvements during the ship maintenance and refit phases by integrating Alfa Laval’s energy-saving technologies with Damen’s expertise. The goal is to seamlessly incorporate decarbonization upgrades into regular drydocking processes.

Michele Rivella, Sales Manager for Sustainability at Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam, emphasized that this partnership will help shipowners meet IMO and EU sustainability targets efficiently, minimizing downtime. The cooperation will also involve joint customer visits and events, leveraging the shared customer base of both companies for impactful results.

Leo Peters, Manager of Sustainability at Alfa Laval Benelux, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability through innovative solutions that aid customers in achieving net-zero goals. David van Luijtelaar, Head of Marine Division Benelux at Alfa Laval, noted that this partnership will enable the delivery of advanced technologies to help shipowners reduce emissions and comply with environmental standards.

In related news, Damen recently completed retrofitting four bulk carriers for BAM Shipping to enhance efficiency and lower emissions. Additionally, Damen secured contracts for new tug constructions and an all-electric tug for Noatum Maritime. Meanwhile, Alfa Laval has initiated a contract for an ammonia fuel supply system for seven dual-fuel carriers and plans to acquire NRG Marine for anti-fouling solutions.
