DNV has officially launched CFARER, a new maritime software company that has emerged from its former DNV Maritime Software division. The new entity is operational immediately, with DNV retaining majority ownership and Wilhelmsen Port Services holding a strategic minority stake.

CFARER will continue to provide its existing software tools, including ShipManager, Hull Manager, and Navigator Port, while integrating Wilhelmsen’s Always on Board port clearance solution through its Diize subsidiary. The company assures that all products will remain fully supported under the new brand.

CEO Erik Staubo emphasized that this transition marks a significant structural change rather than just a rebranding. CFARER is now an independent business with its own leadership and strategy, allowing it to focus on enhancing software and responding swiftly to user demands. The name CFARER pays homage to the seafarers who depend on its digital tools.

The new structure also includes collaboration with Papillon, a maritime tech investor, to guide operational growth. Initial steps involve merging Navigator Port and Always on Board into a new product group, with updates planned for existing software through 2025. CFARER aims for global expansion while remaining open to future partnerships.
