A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between German and Latvian partners from the public and private sectors to enhance bilateral cooperation and digital innovation in maritime technologies. This initiative aims to tackle challenges in port infrastructure management in the Baltic Sea. Signatories include LMT, the Freeport of Riga, the Port of Hamburg, and others.
The MoU has two primary objectives: to identify key challenges in the maritime sector and to develop practical solutions for digitalization, culminating in joint proof-of-concept demonstrations within two years. To achieve this, two workgroups have been established: the Port Connectivity Working Group, focusing on mobile network infrastructure, including 5G, and the Smart Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Working Group, concentrating on intelligent monitoring and AI-driven analytics.
Arturs Lindenbergs from LMT will oversee the workgroups, ensuring alignment with strategic goals. Melanie Leonhard, Minister of Economy and Innovation of Hamburg, emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing shared challenges. Kaspars Ozolins from LVR Flote highlighted the significance of ports as vital economic engines and the importance of this initiative in achieving operational excellence in the region.
