Norwegian Ambassador Hilde Solbakken highlighted the potential for green shipping to foster collaboration between Norway and Vietnam during the Vietship 2025 maritime exhibition. At the event, which opened on March 5, seven Norwegian companies showcased advanced maritime technologies and solutions, aiming to promote greener practices and reduce carbon emissions in the industry.
Maritime transport currently accounts for about 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions. In response, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set a strategy targeting net-zero emissions from international shipping by 2050. Both Norway and Vietnam, as coastal nations and IMO members, are uniquely positioned to work together on green shipping initiatives that could generate local jobs in coastal communities.
Karin Greve-Isdahl, Commercial Counsellor at the Norwegian Embassy, emphasized the importance of sharing Norway’s maritime expertise at Vietship 2025. The participating companies are committed to ambitious emission reduction targets and the development of low- and zero-emission vessels, fostering a comprehensive green maritime ecosystem.
With Vietship being Vietnam’s largest maritime exhibition since 2002, the 2025 edition focuses on shipbuilding technology and offshore energy solutions, further solidifying the partnership between Norway and Vietnam in advancing sustainable maritime practices.
