Hapag-Lloyd, a major player in the shipping industry, is taking proactive steps towards decarbonization by utilizing StormGeo’s digital solutions to comply with the new FuelEU Maritime regulation. This regulation, in effect since January 1, 2025, mandates shipping companies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing the use of sustainable fuels. With a fleet of 300 container ships, Hapag-Lloyd has already shown commitment to sustainability by operating LNG dual-fuel vessels and utilizing biofuels that can slash emissions by up to 80%.

To meet the stringent reporting and verification requirements of FuelEU Maritime, Hapag-Lloyd relies on StormGeo’s s-Log and s-Insight solutions to track and validate fuel consumption and emissions data. Heribert Riesenhuber, Director of Fleet Energy Management at Hapag-Lloyd, expressed gratitude for their longstanding partnership with StormGeo, which has helped them navigate environmental compliance and industry sustainability challenges. Apart from environmental compliance, StormGeo’s digital tools also bolster cyber resilience, ensuring secure data reporting in light of increasing cybersecurity regulations in maritime operations.

The collaboration between Hapag-Lloyd and StormGeo underscores the importance of leveraging technology to drive sustainability efforts in the shipping sector. By harnessing digital solutions for monitoring fuel consumption and emissions data, Hapag-Lloyd is not only meeting regulatory requirements but also enhancing its environmental performance. This partnership exemplifies a proactive approach to addressing environmental concerns while staying ahead in the ever-evolving maritime industry landscape.
