Marine insurer NorthStandard has partnered with behavior change specialist Signol for a two-year initiative aimed at reducing fuel consumption and emissions among crews. This collaboration will provide NorthStandard members with discounted access to Signol’s crew-focused decarbonization service, which includes covered onboarding costs and preferential rates for its software-as-a-service subscription.
Recognizing the vital role of crews in safety and decarbonization, NorthStandard emphasizes that effective fuel-saving measures can be integrated into daily operations. Signol’s platform, developed from over six years of research, encourages seafarers to adopt sustainable practices using existing operational data. The service has reportedly helped commercial and cruise ship operators achieve fuel and emissions reductions of 3% to 8%.
Mark Smith, Loss Prevention Director at NorthStandard, highlighted the innovative benefits of this partnership, noting that seafarers can see the tangible impact of actions like shutting down under-utilized engines. This initiative is part of NorthStandard’s broader strategy to assist members in meeting sustainability goals, with additional decarbonization products and services expected to roll out through 2026.
