Danish Shipping has unveiled its five-year strategy titled “Charting the Course,” aimed at reinforcing Denmark as a premier base for shipping companies. The plan focuses on enhancing the skills of Danish seafarers, promoting sustainable shipping practices, and ensuring the sector’s contribution to national defense and crisis preparedness.
Key objectives include expanding the Danish-flagged merchant fleet to match or exceed global growth, increasing the number of Danish seafarers by 2030, and providing at least 400 internships annually. Additionally, the strategy emphasizes the need for more students in maritime education leading up to 2030 and calls for global regulatory frameworks to support the green transition in shipping beyond EU measures.
Anne H. Steffensen, CEO of Danish Shipping, highlighted the industry’s agility in adapting to changing trade patterns and geopolitical challenges. She described the Danish shipping sector as a strategic asset in a world where supply security is paramount.
Steffensen reinforced the commitment to fostering competitive national and international conditions while promoting a sustainable transition in shipping, including advancements in alternative fuels and technologies. The emphasis is on developing world-class maritime competencies to achieve these goals.
