Deonandan Prasad Singh, a 55-year-old seafarer from Mumbai, tragically lost his life in a tanker attack near Basra, Iraq. Initially in an office-based role, Singh was unexpectedly called by Bravo Ship Management to join the tanker MT Safesea Vishnu just before its voyage. His family expressed confusion over the company’s decision, suspecting understaffing as a possible reason for the last-minute request.

Singh died on March 12 when an explosive-laden speedboat collided with the tanker during cargo operations near Khor Al Zubair Port. The vessel, carrying 48,000 metric tonnes of naphtha, caught fire after the impact. While most crew members were evacuated, Singh was the only fatality in the incident. Having spent over three decades at sea, Singh had recently reduced his sailing commitments to spend more time with his family.

His last communication occurred early on March 12, when he informed his wife that the ship was on fire. Following this call, his family anxiously awaited news, only to receive confirmation of his death later that day. Singh is survived by his wife, children, and other family members, who are currently in Delhi, awaiting the return of his body for final rites. The process for repatriation is underway, though details remain unclear.
