Mental Health Support Solutions (MHSS), a member of OneCare Group (OCG), has expanded its services to include support for the loved ones of seafarers. Seafarers face numerous challenges at sea that can impact their mental health, such as isolation and limited connectivity. However, their families also experience the strain of separation, highlighting the need for comprehensive mental health support for both seafarers and their loved ones.
Faye Egargo, a psychologist at MHSS, shared a case involving a chief officer whose son had special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Through play therapy, Egargo was able to support the young boy and help him navigate his feelings. MHSS has recognized the importance of addressing the needs of children with SEND and the impact that family support has on the well-being of seafarers, particularly Filipino families.
MHSS is dedicated to providing accessible children’s therapy for seafarers and their families in the Philippines. The organization plans to expand its services internationally, tailoring mental health support to different cultural backgrounds. By fostering lasting relationships with clients and their families, MHSS aims to ensure ongoing well-being and support for seafarers and their loved ones.
