Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), headed by President and CEO Takeshi Hashimoto, has launched a new initiative called “OceanCare,” aimed at enhancing the mental health and well-being of its seafarers. Set to begin on May 1, 2025, this program offers confidential mental health resources to MOL crew members and their families, recognizing the unique pressures faced by those working at sea.
In partnership with the Mission of Seafarers (MTS) UK, a charitable organization with over 160 years of maritime support, “OceanCare” introduces a welfare officer. This role serves as a trusted contact for seafarers and their families, ensuring they receive urgent, personalized support when needed. The program further provides professional counseling services tailored for women in maritime roles, along with various training sessions focused on well-being.
“OceanCare” aligns with MOL’s broader sustainability strategy, emphasizing secure and inclusive job creation under its pillars of “Security and Value” and “People and Community.” By prioritizing both mental and physical well-being, MOL sets a new standard in the maritime industry, fostering a culture where every crew member feels valued, both at sea and at home.
