The Directorate General of Shipping inaugurated the PRANAAM Seafarers Assistance Counter at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Terminal 1, on January 21, 2026. This initiative aims to enhance the welfare and support services available to Indian seafarers passing through one of the country’s busiest international airports.
The inauguration event featured a welcome for dignitaries and a detailed presentation on the objectives and services of the PRANAAM initiative. Designed to assist seafarers, the counter will offer guidance, facilitate services, and address grievances as they transition through the airport. The Chief Guest, Shri Sushil Mansingh Khopade, Additional Director General of Shipping, emphasized the Directorate’s commitment to improving seafarers’ access to essential services.
Guests of Honour, including Shri Andrew Watt from the British High Commission and Shri Hitarth Mankodi from CSMIA, discussed the importance of international cooperation in ensuring dignified travel experiences for seafarers. A Guard of Honour by SCI MTI, Powai – ANDA (Upper) candidates was also a highlight, showcasing India’s rich maritime traditions.
Plans are underway to operate the PRANAAM Seafarers Assistance Counter at Terminal 2 (T-2) soon, thereby expanding access for seafarers traveling through both terminals. This initiative represents a critical step in reinforcing institutional support for the seafaring community.
