The second liquefied natural gas (LNG) cruise ship being constructed by Fincantieri for Princess Cruises, named Star Princess, was recently launched at the Monfalcone shipyard in Italy. The event was attended by a number of dignitaries, including John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, Cristiano Bazzara, Director of the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, and the godmothers of the ceremony, Chiara del Vecchio and Francesca Maraventano.
With a gross tonnage of around 178,000 tons, Star Princess is the sister ship to Sun Princess, which was also built in Monfalcone and delivered earlier this year. It is the second-largest ship ever constructed in Italy and the second LNG-powered cruise ship being built by Fincantieri for Princess Cruises. Star Princess belongs to Princess Cruises’ Sphere class and is expected to be delivered in fall 2025, accommodating approximately 4,300 passengers on a next-generation platform design.
The new vessel represents a significant milestone in the partnership between Fincantieri and Princess Cruises, showcasing the cutting-edge technology and design that will enhance the passenger experience. The launch of Star Princess marks a continuation of the collaboration between the two companies in delivering innovative and environmentally friendly cruise ships to meet the evolving needs of travelers.
