Multi-Billion Dollar Deal Signed for Building Four Largest Cruise Ships

Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCL) have entered into a multi-billion dollar agreement for the construction of four new cruise ships. These ships, with a gross tonnage of approximately 226,000 tons, will be the largest ever built for NCL. The vessels will be constructed at the Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard, with the first ship expected to be delivered in 2030, followed by the others in 2032, 2034, and 2036. The contract is considered ‘very important’ by Fincantieri, with a reported value exceeding $9 billion.

The four new ships will have over 5,100 berths and will be able to accommodate more than 8,300 people, including crew members. Fincantieri has highlighted that the ships will also incorporate sustainability features, aligning with the industry’s focus on environmental responsibility. This agreement follows a letter of intent signed by the companies in April 2024. Fincantieri has previously built two ships for the NCL brand, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, with Norwegian Aqua, the first unit of the Prima Plus class, set for delivery soon. Additionally, three other units are currently in various stages of design and construction.
