A rescue operation involving three vessels successfully saved 20 people from a boat drifting in the Mediterranean Sea due to a failing engine. The distress call was received by the ship Stena Impeccable while sailing the Alboran Sea, prompting Maritime Rescue to take action. The boat, located off the coast of Nijar, Almeria, was carrying 13 men, three women, and four children, all stranded and in need of assistance.
Upon receiving the alert, Salvamento Maritimo activated the rescue protocol, involving the nearby vessel Sea Moon. After confirming the boat’s situation, Salvamento Maritimo mobilized the Salvamar Spica, a specialized rescue boat. The Salvamar Spica reached the scene around 11:40 pm, successfully transferring all 20 migrants to safety. The rescue operation concluded with the migrants receiving humanitarian attention from the Red Cross and local authorities upon arriving at the port of Almeria.
Initial reports indicated that all rescued individuals were in good health, although some displayed signs of exhaustion. The successful coordination between the three vessels ensured a swift and effective rescue operation, highlighting the importance of maritime safety protocols in saving lives at sea. The collaboration between maritime entities and rescue teams played a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of those in distress and bringing them to safety.
